Self Worth & Summer Dry Spell

Today I got an email from a recruitment website asking me if (quoting the title of the emailer), "Are you getting the salary you deserve?"... And it got me thinking... I didn't know what my answer was.

For those of you who said yes, good for you! I am truly happy for you but confused for myself!

See...  Although I am very content with what I've got going for me, there's always a chance of failure (which in this case I believe is having a dry bank for days, or worse yet, months...). Does this mean I am not getting what I deserve?

Like any other job activity in the UAE, freelance can be the same. Ramadan and Summer is always worrisome, especially if you're self-employed and trying to make ends meet... But my question is, does it really have to be?

Here are a few things (besides staying indoor) that I believe can help kill the the dry spell:

  1. Get involved in projects (This could be an initiative you've started or even a joint one). And yes, market the crap out of it!
  2. Business doesn't always have to be about making money. Use this time to construct or organise your portfolio or something you believe you can show the rest of the year to everyone. You can also spend time networking, and reaching out to awesome individuals who do what you do.
  3. Make a marketing plan for what the rest of the year - Once the winter hits again, you'll barely have time to manage your work! Use the summer to create a sustainable system and environment that works for you. Possibly even does the selling without your direct involvement!
  4. Most importantly, keep learning. With the amount of resources available online, it just takes a curiosity and passion to brew up the perfect cup of success.

If you're like me and can't decide what your self worth is, maybe we ask the man who changed the world without a line of coding knowledge:

"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it."

PS: Why can't we just enjoy what we do? Get better. And eventually get paid of what our worth is.
PSS: Don't let anyone tell you what you are worth!
